New tumblr, but not a new user. I just wanted to separate my personal tumblr from my professional tumblr, if one can call it such a thing. So introductions in this first post.
I am a technology integration specialist. My job is to help teachers find ways to use technology in their rooms. Usually this involves me finding resources, or coteaching lessons that involve some sort of technology. I work between an elementary and a middle school in West Virginia. Prior to becoming a TIS, I worked as a 4th grade teacher for 3 years, and a 5th grade teacher for 2 years. Last year I began my TIS certification journey, and was lucky to find a job opening in September, which I took a risk in applying for. I was hired, and switched out of the classroom by the end of October.
Since then, I have been working hard to explore and try new things. The previous TIS had a completely different outlook on the job, and so teachers had to get used to my eagerness to be involved and in the classroom. We are nearing the end of the year, and I’m finding that more and more teachers are reaching out and wanting me in their rooms. Students know me as the “iPad lady” at the elementary school, and more and more students at the middle school recognize my face or see me in lessons.
So far, it’s been a big learning experience, but I haven’t been so happy in a long time. This job is so much fun to me, and I enjoy my days immensely. I hope to share much of my work in this blog.
